As a result, it\u2019s both much easier to pack on the pounds and much harder to motivate yourself to move. So what can you do to make sure you <strong>don\u2019t lose your fitness mojo<\/strong>? Here\u2019s our advice for training in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Six tips for training in winter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Take your workout indoors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The frosty breeze and ice-coated pavements of winter<\/strong> can make exercising outdoors much more difficult than usual. For a more accessible winter sport that\u2019s likely closer to home &#8211; <strong>pop on your skates and head to your local ice rink<\/strong>, where you can <strong>tone up your leg muscles and improve your balance throughout the season.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Make yourself accountable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019ve only got yourself to answer for, <strong>keeping to a schedule can be tough.<\/strong> That\u2019s why it\u2019s a great idea to make an external commitment to someone or something else. Invest in winter activewear<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chilly outside? No problem. <strong>Wrap up warm and revamp your winter wardrobe<\/strong> with some specially designed activewear. Many personal trainers recommend that you wear at least three layers of clothing: <strong>a shirt, something that\u2019ll keep you warm (such as a fleece or woolly jumper) and a waterproof jacket.<\/strong> Also, make sure to protect your hands and toes with thick socks and gloves, as a lot of your body heat escapes from these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Embrace the lighter parts of the day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you suffer from <strong>seasonal affective disorder (SAD)<\/strong> &#8211; where you experience low moods in darker conditions &#8211; consider shaking up your exercise plan. <strong>Working out earlier (such as during lunchtime or in the early afternoon)<\/strong> will help make the most of the sun and stay on top of your health. There\u2019s an extra plus to doing this, too: <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.2165\/00007256-200232120-00001\">research shows<\/a> that working out helps people with depression, anxiety and even those who specifically suffer from SAD feel better, as it releases endorphins which make you happier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Set a goal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s always easier to workout when you\u2019re working towards something, don\u2019t you think? Sign up to an event such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/evofitness.at\/en\/marathon\/\">marathon<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/evofitness.at\/en\/triathlon\/\">triathlon<\/a> (something that\u2019ll require lots of prep beforehand), so that you\u2019re obliged to push through your winter funk.
