What’s Hyrox, and why is it everywhere right now?

17th December 2025

The fitness industry is prone to trends. Every year, the internet presents us with new workouts, challenges, and revolutionary routines that promise quick results. Some are hoaxes, some fade as quickly as they appear, while others manage to capture attention and stick around.

However, few of them manage to accomplish what Hyrox did in the last few years. This fitness frenzy has taken the scene by storm, generating buzz in gyms, studios, and social media alike. We dare to say that since CrossFit, few movements have achieved this level of recognition and enthusiasm so quickly.

But what exactly is Hyrox? And why is it everywhere you look in a gym? Why has it become so popular to the point that EVO clubs are embracing it? Let’s find out.

What is Hyrox?

Hyrox is a global fitness race that blends functional strength, endurance, and cardio into a timed challenge. Every competition follows the same format: 8 workout stations, each separated by a 1-kilometre run. The goal? To complete the full sequence as quickly as possible.

What makes Hyrox stand out is its simplicity and consistency. The format is always the same, whether you’re competing in London, Berlin, Vienna, or New York, which makes it easy to track your progress and compete against others, or simply against yourself.

Example of a Hyrox race format

Here’s what a standard Hyrox event looks like:

  1. 1 km run
  2. 1,000 m SkiErg
  3. 1 km run
  4. Sled push
  5. 1 km run
  6. Sled pull
  7. 1 km run
  8. Burpee broad jumps
  9. 1 km run
  10. Rowing (1,000 m)
  11. 1 km run
  12. Farmer’s carry
  13. 1 km run
  14. Sandbag lunges
  15. 1 km run
  16. Wall balls

The result is a test of endurance, strength, and mental strength, built to help you push every muscle group.

Why is it so popular?

Hyrox has gained traction because it bridges the gap between functional training and endurance racing. It’s not a workout built just for elite athletes. On the contrary, anyone can take part. Its structure is simple, measurable, and scalable, allowing participants to track progress, see real improvements over time, and even replicate the workouts in a well-equipped gym like EVO.

Unlike many fitness trends, Hyrox also brings a strong sense of community. Athletes train together, compete side by side, and celebrate effort over perfection. It’s competitive, but it is also highly inclusive.

Should beginners try Hyrox?

Absolutely. Each station in Hyrox can be adapted to your level. Beginners can start by replicating parts of the race in their gym: go for shorter runs, use lighter sleds, and do fewer reps. From there, they gradually work their way up.

If you enjoy variety, measurable progress, and a good challenge, Hyrox is a powerful way to test your limits and stay motivated.
